About Jessica Felman

Daughter of the California sun and a scholar of music, Jessica Felman prepares for the release of her EP “Starting Over” showcasing her spiritual and emotional growth and talent as a singer, songwriter,  and performer.  Jessica Felman creates folk music that incorporates elements of rock and pop to produce a raw sound that’s all her own. Guitar in hand, she’s reminiscent of a youthful Sheryl Crow and at the piano, she displays the sultry purr of Norah Jones paired with the raw strength and sentiment of Alanis Morrisette and charm of Michelle Branch.

Born and raised in Pasadena, California and the middle child of a successful and musically-
inclined family, Jessica wrote her first song at the age of six and by the age of ten knew that
performing and connecting with an audience was in her future. “My dad plays cello, my mom
plays piano and they both sing, so music has always been a part of my life,” says Jessica.  She released her first EP entitled “Barely There” as a senior project in high school.

Rather than sacrifice her education over music, Jessica found a way to accomplish both:  she
made a deliberate and conscious decision to attend the University of Miami where her carefully crafted music career started with a degree in voice and music business and a minor in Spanish.  In order to balance her creative side with her business-oriented nature, Jessica interned at a recording studio during her final year of school.  She later she chose to work at Univision Music Group, the #1 Latin record label in the United States at the time, which was the perfect fit for combining her business, musical and Spanish skills.

“I chose to postpone my music career in order to finish school and was very serious with my
studies. So much so that I graduated with honors.  However, I’ve been writing music and
performing all my life but took a winding path to arrive at this point,” shares Jessica.

Jessica is a folk singer at heart, citing Tom Petty as her greatest influence and mimicking his
folk/hippie-style and chords in her first singles, ”Starting Over” and “Hard to Say.”  She came to incorporate pop and other influences as part of her creative journey, and through her work with talented producers, including Juvenal Juarez, Yariv Vaknin and Brian Irwin, she has proven her willingness to grow as a true artist and give herself over to trusted producers.

“Starting Over” is a healing project and a reflection of her spiritual path to enlightenment, which was ignited by breakups, rocky relationships and losing loved-ones to cancer.  Writing the songs helped her cope through the rough times and represent a period of her life that she’s proud to have transcended.

“I think we all can use a fresh start.  I have no idea what the future holds but I know that
anything is possible.  My hope is that others find something in listening, as I found while writing and recording,” says Jessica.

Jessica Felman will independently release “Starting Over” in early 2011 as the next step on her path.  As one who sometimes dreams in song, writes her way through tough times, and let’s her passion ignite life, Jessia Felman is poised to enter her destined career fully prepared to make her mark.
